Once a month*, under 5s and their families are invited to explore Lynn Museum with a variety of activities, trails, songs, games and stories. These sessions have a different theme each month, and are specially designed for early years learning, allowing young children the chance to explore the museum in their own way. 50p per child, accompanying adults free. Booking is recommended as places are limited. Anna Sewell, the author of black beauty, was born just up the road in Great Yarmouth. Today you can visit the house where she was born, run by Redwings which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Thomas Ruys Smith is an expert in Victorian literature and will explore the work of Anna Sewell as well as the poems of her mother Mary Sewell.

Fresh from a sell-out show at Norwich Playhouse, January offers a unique chance to see Norwich: A Love Story in the intimate setting of the Museum of Norwich. Celebrate the cobbled streets of our city with the storytelling show by writer and theatre-maker John Osborne. A story full of love, secrets and the history of the market stalls, bars and shops. 'Lashings of love and nostalgia' - Outline Magazine. 'Beautifully-written, funny and poignant' - The Scotsman on John's show John Peel's Shed. Performance running time 60 minutes, audiences also have the opportunity to explore the museum after-hours at this special event.

Dr Giorgia Bottinelli, curator of historic art, Norwich Castle Museum talks about the relationship between the work of Turner and that of Norwich School artist John Crome. Tickets include museum admission. This talk will take place in the Town Close Auditorium which is located on the first floor at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery.

On the fourth Saturday of every month Norwich Castle will be filled with family fun! A great chance to spend time together exploring our amazing collections and galleries. Try a wide range of activities from getting hands-on with objects to meeting costumed characters and unlocking your creative side with craft activities, with a different theme every month.

Come and spend a day in the company of local sewing expert Roberta Cummings, and learn how to help your loved clothes last. In this cosy and mindful practical workshop, you will learn some basic visible mending techniques to extend the life of your clothing and other textiles in use in your day-to-day life. The workshop will explore darning and patching holes, tears and worn areas on both knitted and woven fabrics, and participants will use a variety of embroidery techniques across a variety of fabric types. Darning looms and hand crank sewing machines will also be available to use. Beginners welcome! No prior sewing experience is necessary to join in with this workshop; knowledge of knitting may be helpful, but is not essential. Please bring along a garment or textile you'd like to mend and a picnic lunch, as the café and the rest of the site remains closed over the winter.

Join us for a relaxing hot drink, cake and activity, ranging from crafts to handling artefacts. Each monthly session will have a different activity. Coffee Mornings are open to all and free to attend; includes museum admission. Join archaeologist and museum worker, Monika Ingólfsdóttir in an introduction to the Norse settlement of Iceland in the Viking age. Learn about the many precious stones the island had to offer the newcomers and how the people used them throughout the ages in relation to magic, healing, and folklore. Booking is recommended as seating is limited.

Join us for a special taster workshop, as part of our new project Flight of the Falcon. Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery are looking for dancers & movers of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience to participate in brand new and exciting performance piece Flight of the Falcon due to take place across the museum on Saturday 21 June 2025. Participants will become part of a company that will perform Flight of the Falcon, a promenade participatory dance performance that will take place across Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, following the journey of a lost bird of prey as it makes its way through a bustling medieval castle. Together we will create, rehearse and perform a brand-new dance performance! No previous performance experience is necessary, all are welcome to participate, it is free to take part.
