Award-winning Documentary photographer, Debby Besford joins us to celebrate her touring work, The Art of Roller Skating, showcasing an often-forgotten sport with Debby's objective and an original eye. This photography project took 5 years in the making. Debby photographed the journeys of seven young local female artistic roller skaters in Great Yarmouth as they trained and developed their skills; a project which was naturally inspired by her own love for the sport. Lens-based artist Jermaine Francis in conversation about his work 'Rio They/Them, England, 2021' in the exhibition with curator Francesca Vanke. Jermaine's recent series of photographs 'A Storied Ground' explores a Black presence in nature. Historically the Black figure is absent in the English landscape, which has a strong relationship to nationalism and colonialism. Francesca discusses with Jermaine how these codes infiltrate and influence how the Black figure is seen, and how the positioning of his work in the exhibition offers a thought-provoking contrast with historical paradigms of landscape art. Tickets include museum admission.
