Dogs have been a subject matter within photography since it was first introduced. Was this by hapless accident or have dogs been a central theme within photography since the beginning and why? Looking at the parallel trajectory of dogs and photography in Great Britain, Heidi Hudson, Curator of Photographic Collections at the Royal Kennel Club, will examine the role the dog plays out in early photography as subject matter, muse, prop, and symbolic representation.
