Gressenhall Steam and Engineering Volunteer

Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse has an exciting collection of stationary petrol and steam powered engines on display. They are run and maintained by our dedicated team of engineering volunteers, allowing visitors the fantastic experience of seeing steam-powered engines in use.

Following the recent restoration and display of a 1922 Farmers Foundry portable engine - one of only two of its kind surviving - we're hoping to expand our small team of dedicated volunteers to maintain, run and demonstrate this and other machines to visitors.

About the role

Volunteers typically meet at Gressenhall on a Tuesday morning to early afternoon, as well as special event days when demonstrating engines to the public.

Tasks involve cleaning, repairing and basic maintenance of engines. 'Steaming up' and demonstrating them to visitors. An interest or some knowledge of engineering is helpful but above all we are looking for enthusiastic people willing to learn. Training will be provided.
