Mary Anning (1799-1847) was an English fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist. She became known internationally for her discoveries in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel at Lyme Regis in Dorset. Tim Young will be discussing how her findings contributed to changes in scientific thinking about prehistoric life, as well as her experiences as a woman in the field of 19th Century palaeontology. To celebrate National Lottery Open Week, Lynn Museum will be running an 'Introduction to Seahenge' tour on Saturday 15 March. 'Seahenge' is a remarkable 4,000-year-old timber circle, preserved in the sand on the Norfolk Coast until it's excavation in 1998. The short tour is designed for all levels of knowledge, so whether this is your first encounter with Seahenge, or you're returning to learn more, all are welcome. The tour is free to attend, but booking is recommended as places are limited.
