Unveiled in 2023, there's a new blue plaque just up the road from Cromer Museum on Church Street. Have you seen it yet? We'll be exploring the life and work of Alfred Savin, who appears on this plaque, lokking at some of his writign and collections. We'll also look at the story of another notable Cromer figure, Ana Gurney. Alfred Collison Savin (1860-1948) lived in Beach Road, Cromer. He had many interests & wrote one of the definitive histories of Cromer, 'Cromer in the County of Norfolk' It is believed he made this carving of a dog's head in jet.

A facilitated reading and creative writing group inspired by the works displayed in SUNLIGHT: Roger Ackling. Each of these sessions employs a triple-pronged approach and will begin with looking at and discussing a piece of work in SUNLIGHT, followed by a shared reading of a text which will be supplied on the day. Shared reading involves the course leader or another group member reading that week's text aloud and the group talking about the text together. We will then carry out creative writing exercises inspired by that week's artwork, reading and discussion. Group participants do not need to read anything in advance or bring anything to the session - all materials will be provided. There is no expectation to read aloud, and also no pressure to speak during the sessions - active listening is respected as an important response and contribution. There is also no expectation that you will share your creative writing with other group members, it is entirely your own choice.

Fancy trying your hand at something new? Work alongside our curator in a visiteering session to help conserve real museum collections. Learn about what goes in to caring for objects in the museum and have a go yourself. Visiteering offers visitors a chance to get up close and personal with historic items on display and gives some behind the scenes experience in the life of a curator. As thanks for your help in conserving our collections, you can enjoy the rest of the site from the museum and woodland playground to the farm and river walk - before or after your session during the site's opening hours! Sessions are best suited to individuals and to families working together, and last 1hr30.
